I’m Just Say’n…

I came up in the era where you had to earn your spot in the lime light as a lyricist. I think hip hop took a few steps back in recent years & had me feeling like Common “I Used To Love Her.” But with a resurgence of artist like J. Cole, Wale, and Mac Miller (who went #1 on an indy) has me back in love with hip hop. Feels like the artist with substance are making a comeback & from a worldwide standpoint Drake is rightfully leading the way as a new artist.

Thanks to artist like Young Jeezy and Rick Ross, rappers can no longer get on a mixtape and just talk crazy. Rick Ross has Nas spitting crack on a mixtape…I said, Rick Ross has Nas spitting crack on a mixtape (sorry for the Mike Jones moment)!! T.I. has Dr. Dre rapping on his mixtape…once again, T.I. has Dr. Dre rapping on his mixtape!! Incase you’ve been sleeping beside an abandoned building, we’ve been waiting on an album from Dr. Dre since 2000 & fans yearn for the moments Nas goes back to Nasty Nas….Hip Hop is back & I’m proud to be apart of the culture.

3. Mac Miller – 46,635
4. Meek Mill – 0
5. Kendrick Lamar – 0

8. Future – 0
9. French Montana – 0
10. Friddie Gibbs – 0

I want to start off by saying congrats to everyone that made the list & especially MGK for getting that #1 spot.

Now let’s get down to business….

Over 400,000 fan votes were casted and only MGK, Lil Twist, & Mac Miller received votes….where in the hell did MTV get these fans from?!?!?! Mac Miller’s album “Blue Slide Park” was #1 on the charts as an independent artist (I said as an independent artist!!) & he only got 46k of 400,000 votes? Kendrick Lamar is lyrically putting it down for the left coast rite now, not to mention he was featured on The Game & Drake’s album which were both #1 in their first week out. ATLien, Roscoe Dash seems to have a new hit record in the radio every single week. Last but not least, we have Philly’s own Meek Mill. Dude probably had two of the biggest records out this year with “Imma Boss” & “Tupac Back.” His “Dreamchasers mixtape was one of the best joints that dropped & he didn’t even get a vote…WHERE DEY DO DAT AT?!?!?! Rick Ross’ MMG has become one of the fastest growing labels in the game & Meek Mill is at the helm. I’m not questioning artistry or skill level but there’s no way in hell anyone can make me believe Machine Gun Kelly or Lil Twist had a bigger & better year than Meek Mill.
