2 Chainz Signs With Def Jam Records

The most coveted free agent now has a home. Today, 2 Chainz confirms with XXL that he has departed from DTP and signed a solo deal with Def Jam. Tomorrow, he will also make the announcement on MTV’s RapFix Live at 4pm.

“It’s the Real University, Two Gun Gang, Street Executives. It’s not DTP no more. I’m actually behind [Ludacris], he’s still my homie. I just took another route as far as running my own company and bossing up. But on the other hand, I’m still working with him. He has an album coming out this year, as well. Matter of fact, we are label mates, now, which is crazy. So, yeah, that’ll be cool. I’m looking forward to that.”

Ne-Yo has parted ways from Def Jam and moved over to Motown Records. He’s also been pointed Senior VP of A&R. He will be releasing his fifth studio LP this summer under his new home.

I’m honored that I’ve been given such a prestigious title and trusted with such responsibility; terrified because I know that playing this role in the fashion of one of my career role models, Mr. Smokey Robinson — these are big shoes to fill. But trust, I can handle it.”

Could Rapper Shyne Be Signing With Cash Money Records?

It has been revealed by Ken Lewis, a lead engineer & producer on Shyne’s past due album, Gangland, that the rapper has been dropped from Def Jam Records. Maybe now the rumors of him dropping an album with Cash Money will be made true.

In an interview with hiphopdx.com, Ken Lewis revealed info about Shyne’s Gangland album and his current ties to the rapper.

DX: You worked on Shyne’s album Godfather Buried Alive, and you were also mixing all of his upcoming album, right?

Ken Lewis: Well, I mixed 18 songs for the upcoming album and produced two, but he got dropped from Def Jam [Records], and I haven’t heard from him since.

DX: I didn’t even realize he had been dropped from Def Jam—

Ken Lewis: Yeah, that may not be common knowledge. [Laughs] That might get me in trouble. His release date was splattered as May 17 all over the world, but the day came and went, and I never heard from Shyne again. I don’t really know what happened to him, I just know that as far as I’m concerned, I’m not a part of that record anymore.
